HONORABLE MENTION AT DIY MUSIC FESTIVAL & OTHER COMMENTARY 2/05/04
Things have been going slowly but surely. I've been taking some time off to write new songs and reinvigorate my musical creativity.
Recently, I was surprised and pleased to see that "The Diamond Fields" received an Honorable Mention at the 2004 DIY Music Festival. I'm very proud of this record and glad to see that people out there appreciate it. I find being a musician to be such a love/hate thing at times. You can't please everyone, all you can do is your best. So as long as you're writing songs from the purest place in your heart and soul, you've done your job. Thank you to the people at the DIY Music Festival for appreciating and noticing my album!
However, on a different note, the Underground Records review I posted below wasn't so favorable of my album. So why have I posted this review on my web site you ask? Well, as they say, "any review is a good review" because someone thought you were worth writing about.
I'm glad to hear what people think of my record, voice, songs, etc. It gives me food for thought. Although, I can't seem to escape the comparison to Natalie Merchant and I find that frustrating. I guess I need to find fans who have never listened to 10,000 Maniacs EVER, then they'll see what a unique and wonderful talent I truly am! Actually, while I can see some of the comparison, I find it funny because I really don't sound like her when you get down to it. But I guess it's natural for people to want to immediately find someone to compare you to.
I'm glad the reviewer found some good things to say. I actually agreed with them on the songs they thought were strongest. Although, one of my favorites is still "Into Your Grave". How could they miss that one?!?! Plus, I find it refreshing when a reviewer gives their honest opinion of your work because you know they didn't just go along with the "buzz" on some act in order to prove how cool and "in-the-know" they are. Thanks for your feedback Underground Records.
After all, everyone is still entitled to their opinion in this country.

UNDERGROUND RECORDS REVIEW 2/02/04
Priscilla has been gaining some popularity out on the west coast for a couple of years now. Her songs are modern folk based pop with a bit of acoustic layer in with stabs of electric guitar to foster creation of her art. Sounding like a Natalie Merchant clone though, or maybe at times a lite Alanis, Priscilla will have trouble breaking out of the pack without a signature sound, or signature song. Her voice is strong, and a bit smokey, plus her songs are well written, so one like "I Wore Black" with its angels in waiting harmonies could lend itself to fame. After a few listens, it's also apparent Priscilla has some soulful influence in there, and it bodes well with the more atmospheric number such as "Vera". Adding some psychedelia over that piece's Sgt. Pepper's era styling, fits well, and Vera comes accross as one of the album's best. It could be a minor hit, and it just might be the ticket for Priscilla Ederle to gain more notice for her songwriting and singing skills, coming accross as something original, even if most of the passages in the song are from classic rock of days gone by. Overall, this album is a bit on the soft side, failing when it reaches to become Joni Mitchell, yet achieveing a strong hold when it gets grittier, like on the power chord driven "Everything Is Hard", when the music stands on it's own as a statement, one that I am sure Priscilla Ederle will make stronger as time passes.

BAND UPDATE 8/02/03
We've been playing more shows as a 3-piece band and it's been sounding great! The response we've been getting from fellow musicians and club owners has been fabulous. But unfortunately, we have to take a small break for a couple months due to a band injury. Our bass player, Alex Catalona, broke his shoulder in a freak biking accident and will need some time to recover. : ( It's sad news for Gareth, Alex and I. However, there will still be some Priscilla Ederle solo, acoustic performances in the meantime. Check out the "Live" page for information on upcoming shows.

RADIO AIRPLAY UPDATE 2/01/03
WDBM 89FM Impact Radio (Michigan State University's radio station) in East Lansing, Michigan recently played "Very Last Day" from "The Diamond Fields" in regular rotation on their station. THANK YOU WDBM for playing the album! It's always great to hear people playing and enjoying the album. Incidentally, the only reason I know WDBM 89FM played "The Diamond Fields" is because a friend of mine, Wally Pleasant, emailed me one day and said "hey, your album is getting a lot of airplay out here". So, if you happened to know of any stations playing my record, PLEASE let me know.
Also, "Vera" and "Invisible" were both played in the last few months on Vanessa Lowe's radio show
"Your Indie World" which can be heard on KWMR, West Marin Radio at 90.5 FM in Point Reyes Station and 89.3 FM in world-famous Bolinas, California. THANK YOU to Vanessa for playing my album on her radio show. Vaness is a big supporter of independent artists. Being a musical artist herself (and a damn good one!), Vanessa knows how important it is to promote musicians who are doing it all on their own.

PERFORMER MAG REVIEW 12/10/02
Here's a review for "The Diamond Fields" on Performermag.com:
Reviewer -Lisa Hart
Although it received an honorable mention in the 2001 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, “Invisible” is a rather weak start to a generally impressive CD. In this song, Priscilla Ederle's voice lacks the power of which she is capable. The song walks along with an anti-climatic melody and lyrics that hardly reveal Ederle's intelligence. But once that speed bump is past, The Diamond Fields, the second full-length release from this Bay Area artist, really starts to get going. The intimate and introspective lyrics, and the simple, frill-less beats suggest that Ederle is a folk artist, but she prefers to view herself as a spunky rocker who really knows how to tap the groove. This “groove,” moved along by an almost march-like drumbeat and vocals as endearing as Aimee Mann's, continues throughout the CD. Ederle is especially good at finding this groove and using it as her metronome, creating a solid backbone for each song. “Into Your Grave” presents a more artsy side of Ederle's style. Her free flowing vocals, which rise and fall through the octaves, are mesmerizing. Hints of Tori Amos and perhaps a touch of a more subdued Gwen Stefani abound in this song, which is both touching and thought provoking. Ederle firmly grasps her understanding of human nature and she revels this insight to the listener in her songs. Her talent overflows on The Diamond Fields, a personal album that gets its point across through a nice collection of songs.

MUSICAL UPDATE 11/15/02
I'm currently rehearsing with Alex Catalona, the bass player who played on "The Diamond Fields, and Gareth Finucane, a cool drummer I met recently. We've been working on songs off of the album along with some new songs I've been saving in the song bank. I feel like the live show is turning into a real live rock-n-roll experience (with a little girly pop stuff thrown in here and there). So look out for some cool three-piece band shows in the near future!

REVIEWS 11/07/02
Some press reviews have come in here and there which is always exciting yet scary!
It's been interesting to see what random people
have to say about the new record. So far the reviews have been fairly positive from Tony Hicks at
The Contra Costa Times and Stein Haukland at Ink 19. Also, "The Diamond Fields" was a pick-of-the-month on the Independent Songwriter web site and they gave the album a whopping five stars! I'm a big fan of the star system to rate albums. I'm glad they gave it all five stars. Unfortunately, the link to the sound clips isn't working though. Oh well, what's a girly female singer/songwriter to do? It's still very cool they included "The Diamond Fields" in their album picks.

"HONORABLE MENTION" IN JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST 07/31/02
The song "Invisible" was recently given an 'Honorable Mention' in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. The contest receives entries from all over the world from THOUSANDS of musicians. It's kind of cool to know someone is listening over there!

NEW ALBUM UPDATE 05/19/02
Well, after taking a trip to The Plant in Sausalito for the final mastering session, the new album is almost ready to go!
During the mastering session we watched this cool video of The Who singing "A Quick One, While He's Away" and that alone made it worth the trip! It was fun and I must admit I did enjoy feeling like a rock star. What can I say?? But unfortunately I did not run into any REAL rock stars while we were there. (It's true, I was sort of secretly hoping to run into someone famous. Foiled again!)
Anyway, if all goes well at the CD manufacturing place, I should have the album back by mid to late June 2002. Some people have expressed interest in Pre-Ordering a copy. They make me feel so special. : ) You can Pre-Order a copy and/or download mp3s here on the web site or wait until it's available at shows and what not.
Also, there is a CD release party for the new album "The Diamond Fields" set for Saturday, July 27th at Hotel Utah. Mark it in your calendar and be sure the check the live shows updates here on the web site.
As always, thank you for supporting independent music!

ON THE LIVE FRONT 04/12/02
I'm excited to begin playing out more to promote the new album.
Joining me for some of the up-coming shows will be
Alex Catalona and Claire Monty. Alex has put some groovy bass parts down on the up-coming album "The Diamond Fields" and Claire is
a talented cello player I met recently. She's adding some neat cello stuff to the songs for the live
shows. Claire also plays in a band called Halifax Pier.
It'll be cool to get some positive musical vibes going
for the live act!!

RECORDING UPDATE 04/11/02
I know what you're thinking..."She's NEVER going to get this record out."
The truth of the matter is, it's closer every day! It's all coming together in mysterious ways.
We're in the final mixing and tracking stages. Just a few more songs to go...
-
RECORDING UPDATE 12/30/01
As the recording project turns...
Progress and breakthroughs are being made. Each song is taking on its own unique personality. I think
Marwan is a living-room-recording genius. The parts Marwan and Alex have been adding really bring new dimensions
and colors to my songs.
It's like the difference between two dimensional and three dimensional. Or sort of like that amazing
technicolored dreamcoat, but without Joseph.
All I know
is that there will be many people to thank in the end. So many living rooms, so much borrowed equipment, so many
disturbed roommates and neighbors, and the list goes on...

RECORDING UPDATE 11/03/01
Yes, I'm still working on my next CD. Marwan, Alex,
and I are working hard and it's coming along quite nicely. Apparently, all of my whining
and pouting to Marwan doesn't seem to make the project go any faster. I'm an impatient woman sometimes.
For a quick
listen to a couple rough mixes (scratch vocal takes) click on Music.
I know it's bit of a departure from the acoustic
sound of my last record, but I've always been a sucker for a good Pop/Rock song. What can I say?
Hopefully, the record will be finished sometime at the beginning of next year. You will be
able to purchase a copy at shows and through the web site. In the meantime, enjoy the samplings!
